cyberbalkanization
(sy.bur.bawl.kuh.ni.ZAY.shun) n. The division of the Internet into narrowly focused groups of like-minded individuals who dislike or have little patience for outsiders.
I want it to be understood that all opinions are valid.
No political stance is without flaw. Politics is an imperfect science, were compromise and favors often undermine the message. If we are to discuss politics, then we must rise above punditry and steel ourselves against to wanton desire to kick the soap box out from under our perceived opponent. Brotherhood and open-mindedness must reign here too, or else we are nothing more than talking heads spewing dissent and incapable of listening and learning.
Rules:
1. Do not attack, demean, or ridicule another poster. It is fine to relay disgust for a bill, a party, or a political person in/running for office. Do not get offended for others. People who run for political office should expect additional scrutiny and dialog both for and against them.
2. If you find yourself using the word "you", rephrase the sentence. In an attempt to avoid hurt feelings, don't point fingers or call someone out or lump someone into a group by saying things like "You believe this". Also, instead of saying, "you said this", copy any text you think is appropriate, then click the quote button at the top of the screen, and then paste the text between the two quote boxes. Feel free to make your comments after that.
3. Try and provide facts and if possible reference them. This isn't a 24-hour news cycle, and this isn't Twitter. Before you contradict a point, be sure you have facts to back up your point. "You’re a big stupid head," is not an appropriate response.
4. In lue of facts, please relegate your responses to the "I believe" and "I feel" responses. How you feel about something is just as valid, and can speak to spirit of the message or subject. Again try to avoid generalizations, like "I feel all ______s are criminals."
5. Be nice. Though it may increase your post count, please try to remember no one likes to be torn down. It is our differences that make us stronger and allow new ideas to flow. Anyone on this board is our friend and should be treated as such.
