I just got around to reading this new faq and there's a very intersting rather big change in it.

Can models choose to voluntarily move into/through a magical
vortex? (p31)  
A: No.

Q: What happens to models that are forced to move into / through a
magical vortex due to Compulsory Movement or other such effects?
(p31)
A: As soon as the unit makes contact with the Magical Vortex
it suffers the full effects of the spell (in the case of a spell that
affects all models hit, every model whose base would pass
into/through the vortex is affected by the spell). Surviving
models are then placed 1" beyond the template and their
movement ends.


You can no longer voluntarily move into/through a Vortex (effectively impassible terrain). So does that mean it also prevents charges (since you can't move through it)? So for example, if a unit fails a Frenzy test and charges through the Vortex it will automatically fail the charge and simply be placed 1" beyond it. Am I reading this right?

Wait, what about real line of sight, how do we know the models can see through the magical vortex?

I think if the fenzied charging unit still reaches, it would be a successful charge. However, if the vortex is considered impassible terrain, then a charge can not be declared unless the unit can reach by going around the object. Charging does not suspend the impassible terrain rule, and frenzied troops are hellbent on violence, they are not stupid. However, this is stupid; they could have answered both question bu just calling it impassible terrain. Which is even stupider, because I should be able to march through a pit of shades if I want to.

Oh and if you read the rule on page 31, the vortex should move, not the unit.

Yes, it would prevent voluntary charges. A failed frenzied test, however is a complusory move and thus covered by the second question and answer. A unit that failed a frenzied test would move through it and get hit by the vortex.

It's not a matter of sight. Just because you can see something doesn't necessarily mean you can charge it. Your infantry unit can see that Monster, but there is another infantry unit immediately in front of you blocking your charge.

It makes perfect sense to me. Normal troops are not going to march through a vortex of death and destruction if they can help it. For example, I know I'm sure as hell not going to obey an order to march through an uncleared mine field. Frenzied troops, however, are just insane enough to either not understand the consequences of their actions, or not care.
