Well, these are not modern sniper rifles, these are medieval sniper rifles.

And they !should! be harder to hit with than cannons. A sniper is a very powerful tool because it can target specific heros. That precious BSB of yours, gone in a powder flash and you can't dodge that. That can have a much more devastating effect on the army then a cannonball from which you get a look-out sir. Besides, it's not that much harder to hit with. You only get a -1 for sniping. Cannonballs are for taking out monsters and expensive things (your terrorgheist ;).

You may be medieval, we have electricity and steam power. We are at least Wild West (hmm wild west themed skaven . . . maybe they live Perryhead). Oh, and I think I know why I'm so dragon obsessed, I'm just a few hours away from reaching the 100 hour mark for Skyrim.

haha, yeah, that game is very good. I'm about 40 hours in myself.

As for dragons, what's not to love about dragons? They are huge and monstrous and breath fire! Not to mention that the models are gorgeous!

if not for the fact that you can get a new helmet for the cost of two of these dragons, i would have a few myself! ;)

Yes the carmine Dragon is sick. Maybe that's also why I'm cranky. The new Skaven stuff like the Brood Horror is no longer available in Army Builder.

I'll give you ground monsters. Big target, moving at a normalish pace makes a nice easy cannon target. However, what drives me insane is that cannons are better at hitting characters that are outside units than anything else in the game. In fact, they have some of the best accuracy in the game overall. AT BEST these are civil war era cannons with rifled barrels. Even those cannons could not just find one dude who is slightly apart from the other dudes and hit him with pinpoint accuracy. They're no where near that accurate. You pointed the thing at a crowd of dudes and hoped it hit in the same area code. If these are smooth bore cannons (which they likely are), the accuracy is even worse.

Think of it this way for flying monsters. It would constantly be in motion and shifting elevation frequently. No way a cannon hits that with any kind of accuracy. Adjusting for the movement of the target would be hard enough, let alone trying to get the elevation. It would be the modern day equivalent of trying to hit a helicopter with a howitzer: it just ain't happening unless the thing is standing still. When the monster lands and starts mauling people, sure, it would be a giant bulls-eye. Now an dude with a musket wouldn't have an easy time tracking such a fast moving target either, but it would do a heck of a lot better than a damned cannon. To use the helicopter analogy again, it would be like using an AK against the helicopter. It's not gonna be the greatest weapon, but it has a far better chance of hitting the damned thing, especially when you mass a bunch of them together.

I agree with everything you've said, though I would caveat that and say that the general has to land to give orders to ground troops. I don't think warmachines should be allowed to target single models, unless they are large targets (btw-magic carpet should make you large) or they have absolutly no other targets (like at the end of the game) or they are attacked/charged by that target (OK now we are aware that you exist and are trying to kill us). They are Warmachines! Killing a single model is homocide, not war.

Yup, April will almost certainly be Empire:

In other news, the latest rumors are saying Warriors of Chaos next, followed by Dwarfs, and then High Elves. Poor Bretonnians appear to be on the back burner with the Wood Elves =(

That might be a reference to Ulric. Supposedly the Gods are going to play a much bigger role in the new book. I'm actually rather amazed at how GW is keeping a lid on things of late. Not 2 years ago we would have had pictures of new models and a general idea of points values and rules months in advance. Now we're not even a week away from the official announcement and barely a peep.

Looks like someone got their White Dwarf. Empire now has a giant light laser. I love it. Also, the new Gryphon is absolutely enormous.

I have. Most of those books are pretty imbalanced. I'm pretty meh on most of the models too. I like the demigryphon models, but I hate the gryphon itself. The laser is awesome for the simple fact that it's ridiculous.
