It has been almost a week ago since King Cheslov passed away. This is a very sad for Markland. Few men I have ever known have cast a shadow like Chet. He was in most respects a quiet uninposing man and yet he was a mountain of achievements. He was opinionated, but also able to leave others to their own devices. I barely knew him as a person, but he was already a legend by the time I joined. Some people said they hated him, though now they are some of the people most moved by his passing, and whether or not you agreed with him, no one has ever challenged his devotion to Markland.
Even the island of Galatia is laid low by this news. Even our group, a geographic world away, has benefited from Chet's recruiting prowess. He was a force, more than he was a man. Early Galatians cut their teeth travelling to the nether lands of Mount Holly to fight the entrenched powerhouses of Companions, Vairgaurd, and OSM. I, myself, have numerous stories of battle with Chet, but they all pale in comparison to what Chet did in the political arena. He never lost his temper, he never called anyone a name, he did what he was going to do and left you alone to do the same. He always contibuted to the Plague and his contribution to Fencing is unmatched in any pararell.
I've been searching for what to say, as I know not all of you know who he was, and those that do, may have had little contact with him. I was told once that, "He loved us for our independance." I used to think that statement a euphamism, but now I see it as a truth. If you all get a chance you may want to check out the Markland site and learn more about this great man.
I would also like to raise a collection for The American Heart Association on behalf of Chester in lieu of flowers. This is at his and his families request. I would like to use our groups funds, but also I intend to add a little of my own funds as well. If you would like to contribe something extra, please let me know.
Chet, Galatia will burn a great tribute in your honor! Rest in peace.
