R.I.P Chris Benoit

This probably effects me more than you, but I always loved Benoit. In our parallel worlds of make believe, he was an example that hard work and respect are so much better than flash and runny mouth. In the backyard wresting days it was him and Chris Jericho I emmulated.

One of Canada's most famous wrestlers has apparently met with a tragic end that also claimed his wife and son.

WWE superstar Chris Benoit, his wife Nancy and seven-year-old son Daniel were reportedly found dead Monday in their Atlanta home after the 40-year-old grappler missed a house show Saturday night and a Sunday night pay-per-view event. He had travelled home to Georgia for family reasons, but didn't elaborate on what they may have been. Later Monday, local authorities announced they were treating the disovery as a homicide.

Benoit, born in Montreal, was also known as "Pegasus Kid," "The Canadian Crippler" and the "The Rabid Wolverine" and was widely considered to be one of the stronger technical wrestlers of all time.

The WWE immediately announced plans to scrap Monday's scheduled "Raw" event in favour of a three-hour tribute to the veteran of more than 20 years.

"We at the WWE can only offer our condolences to the extended family of Chris Benoit," said WWE executive Vince McMahon. "The only other thing we can do at this moment is pay tribute to Chris Benoit."

Autopsy results are expected Tuesday.

I had heard rumors that it was a murder/suicide. I have no idea who this guy is or what his personality was like, but I prefer to think the best of people, so I truly hope this is not the case.

your rumor is right it was a murder/suicide. No word as to who did what. I knew that Jeff would know about this.

The one thing is for the past 2-3 weeks the WWE has been playing around with who KILLED Vince and of course it was all part of the show. But sadly the Chris Benoit thing looks real.

Hey Jeff, you would have been proud of me this morning I was yelling at the TV cuz the called him Chris Ben.o.it.

if he took his wife and kid with him he does not deserve remembrance. i keep hearing that thats the case but it could have been set up to look that way. last i heard he died over 24 hours after his family.

Well, they reported that prior to the autopsy, soooo, it may be the fine media at work shaping your opinions so the facts may be less interesting.

That being said the WWE has removed all of its remeberances and in the spirit of full diclosure has posted the text messages and a timeline on their site. It seems that what has been reported may have some truth to it, which then makes for an even sadder story. The media is trying to make it seem like it was a "roid rage" killing, but obviously (to me at least) there is a more complicated series of events than that.

Any way around it, remember him in your own way (or in Fritz's case, not remember him), he was a hero of mine, and I am saddened to see him end up this way. But that's life I guess. As long as Richard Dean Anderson doesn't go and blow up a school, I should be alright.

On the radio this morning they said, the wife was kill late friday the boy on saturday and he killed himself sunday. They said something about him sending text messages to work stating the wife and son has food poisoning and were ill. Then text messages were sent from his wife phone or something. They have no yet tested for steriodes but I think they found in in the house. They wife it appears had a bruise from a knee on her back abd he hands and feet were tied. The boy was put in a chock hold and sufficated.

But, that just what I heard on DC 101.
