Wildstar

Post by Fritz »

Take Star Wars, take away those silly force users, throw in Team Fortress 2 level of insanity, and a touch of Firefly-esque space western, and what do you get? Wildstar: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_4_riSI7Ydg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-NXdWk9sm8

My brother is in the beta and he's completely engrossed. I'm trying to get into the next beta weekend with his account. I'll let you know how it is.

Ryan is completely sold on it. The active combat style, the graphics, the world design, he loves all of it. He's already committed to playing a Chua Engineer. I don't much care for the Dominion races, but I'm a goodie too-shoo like that. I very much like the developer philosophy and their bat-shit insane sense of humor. I'm just timid with MMOs now-a-days. I'm leaning toward spellslinger and/or engineer. I like the idea of a tank Engineer, but the pull of making a Mal-style portal-bamfing inter-dimensional cowboy is pretty damned tempting.

i am with you fritz those are the 2 classes i am leaning towards also. i am always a fan of heavy armor and big guns, but a duel welding space cowboy sounds really fun.

Not doing the Cable thing and not getting an Xbox One for a while, so I am in. I will have to research the classes and what not.

Brother is pre-ordered, so I played a bit of the beta. Wildstar definitely has a play style all its own. I tried out a dominion spellslinger in the starting zone up to level 3 for a few minutes tonight. Be warned, while the bells and whistle of "sandbox" MMOs are there (linear questing and so on), the actual combat is far different than anything I've ever played. The dodge system is exactly like Guild Wars 2, with an extra little bonus of having a sprint akin to an FPS as well. The telegraph and aiming systems I really like and it's what makes Wildstar so different. It makes the game far more interactive and skill based than the tab targeting of traditional MMOs. That big blast shot you're charging up? Yeah...you actually have to aim that. The atmosphere is spot on what I expected. If you liked evil genius, you'll love the dominion. More to follow.

Did an exile engineer up to 6. I'm digging the Exile starting area a bit more. Dominion feels like you're just a minion in evil genius. It's a got a great twisted sense of humor to it, but you kinda just another drone. Exile, on the other hand, has a big time Browncoats feel to them. I'm loving the hell out of it.

I'll probably have a character on both sides. My brother is committed to playing a Dominion Chua, but I'm loving the hell out of the Exile quests and music.

Ack, sorry Gregor. I didn't check the boards on Sunday. I was indeed on and off Wildstar for parts of the day. I was on the Nexus server, but I'm not opposed to hopping servers. I'm trying out a bunch of classes to see what I like, so I don't have anything at a particularly high level. As such, I'm not terribly invested in one particular server.

Class update: My brother and his friend are almost certainly going engineer. I'm torn between a Medic and a Spellslinger. I'm leaning more and more toward Medic. The only thing holding me back is that they're considered the "best" of the healers right now and I always hate playing the flavor of the month.

I am on Alizar same as Brian. I have a lvl 7 tank, exiles side. I went tank thinking you guys were other classes. I have not found much to do at this low level except for solo quests.

like your self I am not opposed to switching server / factions etc.. do you know off hand when the next beta weekend is open?
