Smithsonian Day - April 26

Post by MorGrendel »

So I would like to plan a day to go to the Smithsonians. I'm figuring April 26 would be good, as DC should have warmed up by then. We can all pile in the Mini-Vans and then walk to the Metro from Missy's Parents house. Also let me know what you want to go see, and if we want to do dinner down there.

I would like to hit the Art museums and maybe either Natural History or Air and Space. I have been to the Holocast and American History recently, and was less than impressed.

Natural History and Air and Space never fail to be interesting. American History starts good, but once you get past the surface, its less history and more random exibits and collections. It doesn't not have any real flow. Holocast I can never get to early enough to take the pay tour, and with out that, the diary of Anne Frank is more fun.

I recommend the Freer and Sackler Galleries of Asian art.

I also demand that we go to the National Portrait Gallery by April 1st to see Stephen Colbert's portrait.

I might be able to make it, gosh I live close enough to the Metro. I ought to take advantage of my nearness to DC before I decide to move away from the city. (I guess I'm more of a suburban girl at heart.)

I have always liked the Natural History museum but have seen that one the most.. the Freer and Sackler galleries are great.. I only saw the Air & Space museum when they had the Star Wars exhibit, oh, almost ten years ago? I haven't seen the American Indian museum yet but I hear the cafe is great. I haven't seen the portrait gallery either, I'm not sure where that one is.

Let me know what time and where, when you decide... closer to the day I'll figure out what my schedule looks like.

Air and Space is nice, it has an annex over by dulles which is pretty nice. There might be a shuttle that runs between them.

I've heard great things about that annex site. I've been meaning to check it out.

I'm not sure. I am thinking I (we) need to head up to the farm on the 26 to check things out. Possibly we could move Smithsonian Day to Sunday. We don't have a free Sat for about a month. (give or take War of the 7 headed dragon)
